For auction is a used 1973 Porsche 911S 2.4 7R engine case. This is a rare second half of the year type 7R case which is structurally much stronger than the earlier '73 and previous 2.4S cases. Engine serial # 6331048 and type 911/53. Factory matching case halves numbered 0880. Internally it is in excellent condition with no damage. The exterior surface finish is very clean and free of any corrosion or damage. It appears to have been repaired at two of the left side rear engine carrier studs as can be seen in the photos. My guess is they were over-stressed (accident or dropped engine)? and broke the outer corners of the mounting bosses. They appear to have been reinforced with JB weld or similar epoxy. The repairs seem fine, and it seems there is plenty of original thread depth to adequately hold the studs as they appear solid, and were securely supporting the running engine at time of removal of the engine. The case halves were carefully inspected and there in no other damage anywhere. While the case is not in mint for this reason, it is nonetheless in very good clean condition and would be valuable to someone with an early 911S car as an engine replacement, or for someone wanting the desirable "S" 7R type engine to build a competition/track engine or hot rod. I encourage any questions, and the case can be viewed in person if desired. Included with engine is the correct layshaft. Head studs are in good shape and corrosion free. The auction can be terminated at any time as it is for sale locally. Full payment via paypal required within 24 hours after auction close. Shipping within U.S. only. I will likely carefully remove the transmission mounting studs for ease of shipment.  518.929.7259 -Mike

Better Place Electric Car visitor centre opens

Tue, 09 Feb 2010

Better Place have opened a visitor centre in Israel to demonstrate their battery swap technology for electric cars Last October we wrote about a start-up company in Israel – Better Place – that had a new way forward for electric cars by taking the purchase of battery packs out of the equation, and was developing a system for ‘Battery Swap’ stations where electric car owners could drive in and swap their battery pack for a fully-charged one in a few minutes. That story first brought to our attention our favourite quote of last year – by Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn – who said “A hybrid is like a mermaid: if you want a fish, you get a woman; if you want a woman, you get a fish.” Which probably explained why Nissan – and its partner Renault – got involved with Better Place. Better Place aims to address the main concerns of electric car drivers by making the battery packs in electric cars ‘swappable’.

Mercedes has revealed the new E63 AMG in an official photo of the 2013 E Class family ahead of a Detroit Auto Show debut. We’ve already had the reveal of the facelift for the Mercedes E Class Saloon and Estate in December, followed by news earlier this month on the new E-Class Coupe and Convertible. But one facelift for the 2013 Mercedes E Class range was missing – the facelift for the mighty E63 AMG.
