KKK K-26/27 STG III Special Turbine Wheel, Billet Compressor, Ported, Blueprinted Turbocharger

Porsche 944 and Audi owners that are looking for a lot more than simple turbo upgrades should enjoy this Exclusive Turbosystems offering we have nicknamed the 'KILLER-B'.   It has a billet compressor wheel stuffed into its compressor housing which is matched to a larger turbine wheel fitted to a machined 944T turbine housing.  Now you have a turbocharger which is very happy producing a solid 350 to 500 WHP.  We thought this the best solution for those looking for a KKK turbocharger that is very well balanced and capable of next level airflow delivery for modified Porsche and Audi engines.  Serious club racers need only look to this turbo for an easy fitting, high-output solution.  For this very special hybrid turbocharger, we at Exclusive Turbosystems have taken the route of basing this hybrid on proven KKK components combining both the best of K26 and K27 components from larger trim turbochargers.  Of course the lightweight billet compressor wheel upgrade we have used in our STG II upgrades is retained but the working side of this turbo has an upgrade to boast about as well.  The precision German engineering applied to manufacture the original Porsche 944 spec turbocharger is still retained for the turbine section of the KILLER-B upgrade turbo.  The compressor section is a much larger K-27 spec with a full 54 mm which is well matched to the highly efficient turbine wheel as fitted for use in the Porsche 944T-S.  Odd mix we admit but this is actually the hot setup for maximum power and boost response while using KKK components and modified housings.  We have naturally fully modified the CHRA and turbine housing to properly match the flow capabilities of this 55 pound/ hour capacity compressor.

As with all of our signature series turbos, the KILLER-B CHRA is fully modified for increased durability and performance.  The journal bearings are modified to increase oil flow to the turbine shaft surface.  Of course the turbine shaft bearing journals are polished for reduced friction during operation.  For this level of turbocharger upgrade the thrust plate has been upgraded with a specially fitted 360 degree  plate for better durability with higher boost loads.  Each thrust plate pad is polished and its oil ports chamfered for higher flow at the thrust surface under load.  These modifications don't just reduce the friction of the CHRA but also deliver more lubricating oil to the rotating components and improve the cooling of the bearings during operation.  Friction reduction within the CHRA has a net gain of 150 rpm sooner full boost over an unmodified CHRA rotor group.  Wow, that is worth the effort in anyone's book, lag is nobody's friend.

The housings are touched by our carbide burs and sanding rolls as well.  The working side of this turbo has been heavily worked over to give the exhaust gasses an easy path to the turbine blade tips.  Velocity improvements in turbine housings directly relate to improved boost response and compressor map efficiency.  Cast surfaces are poor in factory turbochargers and the KKK K26 is no exception.  We have spent a few hours correcting the imperfections of the factory turbine housing casting.  Even the turbine outlet is ported to improve the gas flow after the turbine wheel.  This porting alone will vastly improve the spool-up speed of the turbine owed to the huge reduction in backpressure.  The compressor wheel is not only 10 mm larger in diameter at the entry but the overall diameter of the wheel is larger as well.  This K27 wheel moves air on another level compared to the factory (944 spec) K26 compressor, and because it has updated aerodynamic profiling, it far exceeds the compressor map efficiency of any cast wheel of similar dimensions.  As with any of our billet aluminum compressor wheels, this one is significantly stronger than the OEM cast wheel and won't flex under higher boost pressure loads.  A fitting upgrade that only adds to the durability and capability of the basic KKK turbocharger architecture.

Because of the above mentioned modifications to this turbocharger, you can expect a 400 rpm sooner onset of boost over an unmodified hybrid offered by another turbo specialist.  And this is with a turbo that fits right on the factory up-pipe and downpipe!  The porting and CHRA really make the KILLER-B a sweet turbocharger, but with a billet compressor wheel and turbine wheel upgrade it brings modern turbocharger performance to the classic Porsche 944T or modified Audi.  A favorite with 944 owners which have highly modified cars including built (upgraded valvetrain, head porting, camshaft grind, etc.) engines, and upgraded clutch assemblies.  The best complements are larger injectors, custom intercoolers, 3 - 3.5" exhaust systems, modified intake manifolds, and a  high-flow air intake system.

2013 VW Golf TDI BlueMotion Mk 7 costs from £20,335

Thu, 02 May 2013

Starting at £20,335 for the 3-door BlueMotion and rising to £20,990 for the 5-door, the new Golf also emits just 85g/km CO2 (which would have been enough for free London Congestion charging, but not any more) which is 15 per cent better than the previous Mk 6 TDI BlueMotion managed. VW has managed to tweak the Golf BlueMotion’s economy figures still further by reducing weight, fitting super low rolling resistance tyres (that run with higher pressure), longer gear ratios, stop-start and aerodynamic tweaks. Thos aerodynamic tweaks includes modifications to the front of the Golf to reduce drag by nearly 10 per cent, adding a roof spoiler, air guide elements on the back window, a masked front grill, smoother underfloor and a reduction of ride height by 15mm.

College Exhibition: Pforzheim University Summer Degree Show 2004

Tue, 28 Dec 2004

Transportation Design students at Germany's Pforzheim University displayed their work in the school's summer Transportation Design degree show in July, one of the two graduation shows per year. The Pforzheim Transportation Design courses lead to BA and MA degrees. The exhibition included work from graduating Diploma and Masters students, exterior and interior projects by the 5th and 7th semester students, as well as work from students in the earlier stages of the diploma and masters courses.

Peugeot 208 GTi Concept (2012) first official pictures

Fri, 17 Feb 2012

This is the Peugeot GTi Concept, and it's a near-200bhp hot hatch that Peugeot will unveil at the Geneva motor show in March 2012. Unveiled alongside it will be the Peugeot 208 XY Concept.  The Peugeot 208 GTi Concept is technically still a concept, but the hottest Peugeot 208 already runs a THP 156 engine, so the mule our spies spotted cold weather testing is thought to be an early prototype for a production version of the GTi.
