Design Review: Bertone Birusa concept
Tue, 04 Mar 2003The new Birusa concept unveiled today shows Bertone returning to what they do best - a flamboyant showcar giving us a vision of how the high performance GT car (front engine, rear drive, two seats) could evolve stylistically in the near future. Based on a BMW Z8 aluminium chassis lengthened by 300mm, it's a refreshing piece of exuberance by the Italian company and a celebration of what they achieved in the 1960s and 70s. The wedge-shaped profile is characterised by a classic Bertone device - a dihedral-shaped side window with an undercut lower glass section, as featured on showcars such as the Boomerang and Carrabo.
Nissan GT-R to be revised for Europe
Thu, 01 May 2008By Tim Pollard Motor Industry 01 May 2008 18:14 Nissan is fettling its GT-R before it goes on sale in the UK in April 2009. It might have just announced a new lap record at the Nurburgring – chief test driver Tochio Suzuki shaved nine seconds off the GT-R's previous record of 7min 38 – but Nissan's engineers are already working on upgrades to the everyman's supercar.Chief vehicle engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno told CAR Online that the GT-R models bound for the American market would benefit from a range of small tweaks, including three harder engine mounts and a stiffer transaxle mount to stop the mechancial parts from moving under extreme cornering. It's detail like this that enabled the new 7min 29sec...Nissan GT-R: detail changes'The new mounts make the car feel more together in extreme circumstances,' he said.
Mitsubishi Prototype-S sketches
Mon, 28 Jan 2008By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 28 January 2008 10:13 Fancy a cut-price Mondeo? Mitsubishi is readying a hatchback version of its Lancer family car for launch later this year – and will drop a few clues with this Prototype-S at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008. Called Lancer Sportback, the production car will be a classic five-door, although you can bank on removing the wilder excesses of the side sills, aggressive snout spoiler and bonnet air vents on bread-and-butter models.
