The cheapest Evo X will be £27,499, £2504 more than the Subaru Impreza WRX STi. But if you’re not in the market for the all-out, all-paw Lancer then fear not, because the base 1.5-litre front-wheel drive model will cost only £12,499, just £4 more than the equivalent Scooby.

The Scaglietti-designed race car, serial number 0738 TR, is expected be one of the most valuable cars ever offered during Monterey's auction week. “RM set the current world-record price for a car sold at auction with another pontoon-fender TR selling for $12.4 million,” said Rob Myers, chairman and CEO of RM Auctions.

As far back as 2011, Subaru in the US confirmed that a turbo version of the BRZ’s 2.0 litre FA20 Boxer engine was under development although, to be fair, they didn’t say it was actually heading for the BRZ. And just last year, Subaru teased what we thought could be a more powerful BRZ STI, but that turned out to be a BRZ tS with go faster bits but no more actual power.
