Volvo makes breakthrough in battery tech
Thu, 17 Oct 2013Volvo has developed a new way of ‘storing’ energy for its future electric vehicles. The Swedish firm is exploring the concept of lightweight structural energy storage components made from carbonfibre, containing “nano structured batteries and super capacitors.” This technology is said to offer a lighter, more compact solution to the problem of energy storage, potentially removing the need for the heavy, bulky batteries used in current electric vehicles. We’re still waiting for a decision from Saab’s administrators about which – if any – of the bids they’ve received for what’s left of Saab are solid enough to pursue.
Ferrari posts huge profits - by building fewer cars
Tue, 18 Feb 2014AP Ferrari today announced an 8% jump in trading profits to €363.5 million in 2013 - despite selling 5% fewer cars. It's all part of the supercar maker's planned reduction in supply to keep values and demand for Ferraris rock-solid, Maranello reported. Turnover and profit all surpassed previous records, despite the reduction in the number of cars built.
