Dallara branches out from track to road with new 2017 sports car plan

By Georg Kacher Motor Industry 13 August 2014 09:27 Dallara - the company involved in top-end motorsport from Formula E to Indycar - is readying a sports car for the road, CAR magazine can reveal. In the new September 2014 issue on sale today, Gian Paolo Dallara, the firm's founder, confirms a back-to-basics eponymous sports car due to arrive by 2017. The Dallara road car will be extremely focused: target weight stands at just 850kg, enabled by the use of carbonfibre, just like on the Alfa Romeo 4C that Dallara helped to develop.

Ferrari video of the next Enzo's HY-KERS hybrid

Ferrari has issued video of its new HY-KERS hybrid system bound for the new Enzo successor due later in 2012. It mates a V12 petrol engine with a brace of electric motors - one to drive the car's ancillary systems like cooling and power assistance, and the larger one to drive the rear wheels. This teaser video doesn't give away any incredible performance figures, but it does afford a glimpse into Maranello's thinking for its new hypercar.

GM reveals new, highly modular Ecotec engine family

GM introduced its new modular family of Ecotec engines on Wednesday at its powertrain headquarters in Pontiac, Mich. The new, reduced-in-size three- and four-cylinder mills will replace three of GM's current engine families, eventually making their way into five of the company's brands. The Ecotec family will eventually spawn 11 engines in total, ranging in displacement from 1.0 liter to 1.5 liters.
