Hyundai Suicide ‘Advert’ causes a rumpus

Fri, 26 Apr 2013

It’s not easy advertising your wares and finding the right balance between mainstream and innovative to capture attention, as Hyundai has found out to their cost with an ‘advert’ for the hydrogen powered ix35 FCEV which, rather distastefully, depicts a man trying to commit suicide by running a hose from the tailpipe to the cabin before realising he can’t achieve his aim as the FCEV’s only emissions are water. It’s a proper cock-up from Hyundai – usually so sure-footed with their PR – but, despite Hyundai US putting the blame at the door of Hyundai UK, there’s more to this suicide ‘advert’ than meets the eye. It seems the suicide video was put together by Innocean – a European Ad Agency owned by Hyundai’s Chairman Chung Mong-koo and his daughter, and responsible for much of Hyundai’s marketing output – and was a clumsy attempt to gauge reaction to the somewhat macabre take on the benefits of an FCEV.

Rolls Royce Ghost – Undisguised

Mon, 08 Jun 2009

Rolls Royce Ghost virtually undisguised out testing in Germany This spy shot of the new Rolls Royce Ghost was grabbed with the baby RR out testing in Germany, and gives us the best view yet of the new RR4. For the first time we get to see the stainless steel bonnet option the Phantoms get, and get a much clearer feel of it’s presence. Yes, it is clearly a sibling of the Phantom, but it seems better proportioned.

CAR Most Wanted of 2014: Audi TT

Wed, 08 Jan 2014

By the CAR editorial team First Official Pictures 08 January 2014 10:30 The Audi TT is Audi's 911. Okay, it’s 15-years-old rather than 50, but it’s the sports car that made the Audi of today. And the all-new, third-generation TT wants to challenge the 911 like never before, with sharper dynamics and more performance, especially in 380bhp TT RS form.
