The final eight contenders are: Ford B-max Hyundai i30 Mercedes A-class Peugeot 208 Renault Clio Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT86 Volkswagen Golf Volvo V40 This year, there are eight finalists instead of the usual seven, thanks to a dead heat between two contenders. Bill Gates, venture capitalist invest $23.5 million in EcoMotors

Chairman Bill Gates and investor Vinod Khosla for engineering and testing of its trademarked Opoc engine technology. EcoMotors said in a statement Monday that the investment marks a key advance in commercializing its opposed piston-opposed cylinder engine.
