If you are at any point planning an extended offshore passage by sail or power boat, then this unit is a MUST HAVE for your ditch bag or liferaft.  Of course you hope never to use it, but you sure want it onboard for survival.

This unit produces a pint or better of pure potable water (from salt or brackish water) from an hour of pump strokes.  It was manufactured in 12/1994 and has been inspected/tested 3 times since, most recently in 4/2013. It has NEVER BEEN USED IN A RESCUE SITUATION; it's only seen bench saltwater in a test environment, then promptly rinsed with fresh water and re-stored.   At last test, it worked flawlessly.

You sure wouldn't want to try to fill a gallon jug with this (your arms get pretty tired), but if ever in a liferaft awaiting discovery and rescue, this becomes your lifeline.  Most offshore cruisers insist on including one in their liferaft or ditch bag (if your crew knows you have one, their wives are MUCH more willing to let them make the passage with you!).  That's why I bought it, and now that my cruising (38,000+ miles) is in the past, so should you.

This unit sells new for a minimum of $350, some brands very much higher.

The Audi Q5 Hybrid gets revealed on the quiet I know, you’re thinking that Audi has decided to get some spoiler photos and powerplant details on the Audi Q5 Hybrid out in the open ahead of the Los Angeles Motor Show to spoil the normal leaks on a new model. But no, it’s a bit more peculiar than that. For some reason – and without fanfare or announcement – Audi has added details of the Q5 Hybrid to its websites.

Genty Akylone: A 1000bhp French Supercar Revealed

Mon, 17 Oct 2011

Genty Akylone - a 1000bhp French Supercar The greatest Supercar in recent years hails from France, and with production of the Veyron coming to a close it looked as though France may lose its mantle of producer of the world’s fastest car to the Americans. But Genty automotive may have put paid to that with the reveal of the 1000bhp Genty Akylone. The Genty Akolyne is a rather generic-looking supercar, but one that promises incredible performance.

BMW M4 Convertible revealed. Price from £60,730

Fri, 04 Apr 2014

The BMW M4 Convertible (pictured) revealed We reported last month that the new BMW M4 Convertible would debut at this year’s New York Auto Show, and here it is ahead of that debut complete with trick folding metal roof, 425bhp and a price tag that just nicks over the £60k line. A direct replacement for the old M3 Convertible, the M4 Convertible will cost you just over £4k more than the M4 Coupe, but for the extra money you get the same car but with infinite headroom – and a big weight penalty. The new 3-piece metal folding roof can be tucked away in a mere 20 seconds at the flick of a switch, with better noise insulation than the M3 Convertible had and more room in the boot when the roof is down too.
