QUICKSILVER (MERCURY) SSR HD HUB KIT

Mercury Marine, the world leader in marine propulsion and technology, introduces the Flo-Torq SSR HD, a propeller hub system designed to improve shift noise and vibration on high-horsepower outboards that use a heavy-duty 1.25-inch propeller shaft.

This new hub system is the first of its kind to employ Mercury’s new SSR technology. SSR stands for Soft Shift Rubber, which delivers a 25 percent improvement in shift noise and vibration during shifting events. The SSR hub delivers these benefits without sacrificing the strength and durability of a solid hub designed for high-performance marine engines.

The SSR system starts off with a traditional solid steel hub, but adds a bonded rubber sleeve to one end of the hub that provides cushioning to the system. The bonded rubber sleeve cushions the propeller during shifting events, absorbing shock and vibration. As soon as the propeller is under load, the stainless steel end of the hub engages the core of the propeller, creating a solid hub that can reliably transfer the significant power generated by today’s FourStroke outboards.

One Lap of the Web: The Weird World of Wheels

-- Introducing the greatest television show you've never heard of: "Operation: Mystery!" Imagine if the "X-Files" took place in 1960s Japan, and had its own cool custom car the heroes rolled around in: the Tortoise, a pudgy little thing that resembled the unholy combination of an Opel GT and a Dustbuster. It was bulletproof (not really), had gullwing doors (really) and was based on a Subaru 360 (really!). Sadly, its whereabouts are unknown, and it might have disappeared into the ether along with the UFOs its heroes probably investigated.

Top Gear Tonight: Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series & SLS Electric, Hovercraft Car & Hugh Jackman is SIARPC

Sun, 21 Jul 2013

Top Gear tests the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series (pictured) against the SLS Electric Drive We’re already halfway through the latest series of Top Gear – Series 20 – with tonight’s episode 4 leaving just two more show to go before the end of the season. Tonight we get Messrs Clarkson, May and Hammond looking for a solution for negotiating flooded regions (which just happens to be running in the longest dry spell in the UK for years) and it seems the solution is to build a car that turns in to a hovercraft. That will be the cue for the boys to appear in wetsuits as they take their creation for a trolley down the River Avon, a trip that will no doubt be more than a little eventful and wayward – hovercraft are not exactly point and steer.

GM’s Henderson offers a ray of hope for Sky, Solstice

Mon, 11 May 2009

There appears to be a slight glimmer of hope for fans of the Saturn Sky and the Pontiac Solstice. CEO Fritz Henderson said that General Motors would be willing to sell its Wilmington, Del., plant, which builds the Sky and the Solstice--two eye-catching performance cars--if a buyer specifically wanted those niche products, similar to what Chrysler offered with its Dodge Viper business.
