Repeated references to the Nurburgring during the press conference at the launch of the new SEAT Leon Cupra strongly suggest that the 280hp hot hatch has broken the front-wheel drive lap record. SEAT is waiting until the 2014 Geneva Motor Show before saying any more, but has already hinted that its new Leon Cupra is significantly faster than the current Renaultsport Megane record holder. Nissan has built more than 1 million Qashqais in Sunderland Nissan has revealed it is planning to move some of the production of the Nissan Qashqai to Russia to avoid import duty. The Nissan plant in Sunderland is a real success story, not just for Nissan but for the UK economy as a whole. Last year Sunderland produced over 400,000 cars – many of them exported – including the Qashqai, Juke and Note and next year it will start to build the Nissan LEAF for Europe.

Kia Pop concept (2010) first official pictures

These are the first pictures of Kia's new 2010 electric concept car, the Pop, which is due to make its debut at the Paris motor show on 30 September. Details on the new Kia Pop are sketchy, but at 3m long and with a triple-seat arrangement, it could be that Kia has its sights set on creating a rival to the Toyota iQ. In fact, we can see from the bird's-eye shot that the seating plan mimics that of Toyota's baby with two positions in a front bench and a single rear seat behind the front passenger.
