Here is a Lucas HF1849 horn that was specified for Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite and the early years of Mini Cooper cars.  These were canceled by Lucas back in the 1970s and no reproductions have been made.  They are made from stamped steel with a cast alloy outer rim, very susceptable to corrosion, and were mounted low on the radiator brace on the Bugeye Sprite, directly in the path of water and slush coming off the right wheel.  That unfortunate placement meant most used ones became worthless to restore as they were eaten up by corrosion.  This one is in good original condition, ready to mount on a driver car.  It has the original type bullet connections for the wires, so is ready to install.  The sound these make is very distinctive, sort of resembling a goat with his private parts caught in a barbed wire fence.  No other horn makes quite the same sound.  The picture is of the exact horn you will receive.  Please be sure it is correct for your application before bidding.

China to boost electric cars with 30% Government EV fleet

Sun, 20 Jul 2014

The BYD E6 EV (pictured) will benefit from China’s push on EVs The UK government has just announced its commitment to use electric cars for its own vehicles in an effort to boost the take-up of EVs, but China is going even further. China has ordered government officials to start buying electric cars (that means BEVs, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell cars) in a big way, with instructions that 30 per cent of government cars must fall in to the ‘New Energy’ category by 2017, and an even higher percentage going forward. The aim is to cut pollution, and China expects to have 5 million New Energy cars on the road by 2020 and it is urging it government agencies and some city governments to start buying New Energy vehicles from Chinese makers like BYD and SDAIC, but also instructing them to build more charging stations and supporting infrastructure.

Toyota Prius Recall: 30,790 cars in the UK, 1.9 million worldwide recalled

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

The 3rd generation Toyota Prius (pictured) is being recalled Toyota’s hasn’t had a lot of luck with recalls in the last few years, although the latest recall for the Toyota Prius isn’t quite on the scale we’ve seen for previous recalls. It’s only eight months since the last Toyota Prius recall – which affected around 5,000 Prius models in the UK from 2009 – but this latest recall is a lot more extensive, affecting third generation Prius built from March 2009 to February 2014 and totalling 30,790 cars in the UK and 1.9 million worldwide. The issue is a problem with the hybrid system’s boost converter software, which is used when the car is under heavy load such as accelerating hard from a standstill.

Goodwood Revival – with Mr Bean

Fri, 28 Aug 2009

Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean will feature at this year's Goodwood Revival But one big petrolhead – who is a Goodwood regular – is Rowan Atkinson, and Goodwood has persuaded him to recreate the Mr Bean sketch – for it is Rowan who is Mr Bean – driving a Mini whilst seated on the roof ,utilising a variety of household articles to control the Mini from a comfy armchair. I can’t confess to being a Mr Bean fan (although I adore Black Adder), but Mr Bean has made Rowan a very rich man, so I’m sure it will prove a big draw. Apart from his daily sketch recreation, Rowan will be driving a 1965 Austin Mini Cooper S in the St Mary’s Trophy saloon car race, which this year is all-Mini and recreates a Mini race that took place at Goodwood in the early sixties.
