Volvo XC90 (2015)
Tue, 26 Aug 2014After three highly-regarded concept cars and a rather extended gestation period, the first of the new generation of Volvo cars, the XC90 SUV, has been unveiled. Designed – at least latterly – under the auspices of Thomas Ingenlath, who joined the sole remaining Swedish brand from VW as its design director in March 2012, the new Volvo XC90 is the first to sit on the company's new, modular SPA platform (Scalable Product Architecture, if you're interested). This allows more freedom in terms of proportions, with a particularly generous axle-to-dashboard distance.
Luxury car price crash in China
Wed, 21 Mar 2012Mercedes in China offering 25 per cent discounts on S Class Mercedes, BMW and Audi are having to offer discounts of up to 25 per cent on luxury cars in China to shift stock. The huge Chinese car market has been seen as a sales salvation for Western car makers; the automotive equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel. But it looks like that’s all changing, particularly at the luxury end of the market.
Car Design of the Year Award winners announced at Car Design Night Geneva 2012
Thu, 08 Mar 2012The winners of the 2011 Car Design of the Year awards, as voted for by the Car Design News readership, were unveiled on the evening of the first Geneva motor show press day at the annual Car Design Night at La Sip nightclub in the Swiss capital. The event was one of the busiest in recent memory, with over 400 designers in attendance. The winners of the annual Car Design of the Year Awards were presented by Car Design News' Editor, Owen Ready.
