REBUILT 1968 TRIUMPH TR 250 4-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION (GEARBOX). I tried to sell this in used condition and had no bids so I had it COMPLETELY rebuilt by the best British transmission rebuilder I know (Kenneth Quade from the Fox Cities British Car Club). It turned out that it was in rough shape and needed just about everything --so we did EVERYTHING to it. It has now been fully rebuilt and bench tested and works perfectly. This was rebuilt for a one-year-only Triumph TR250. It will work fine in a TR6, a TR4 a TR4A .

NOTE: I hauled this tranny from Indiana to Wisconsin. It needed extensive repair and I spent $1,200 rebuilding it because a lot of parts were needed. It was also cleaned up, tested and hauled back and forth to the rebuilder. I am offering it for just about what it cost me to bring it home and save it.

NOTE: I have lowered the price a bit and changed the photo to a picture of the REBUILT gearbox..

NOTE: I am the former editor of OLD CARS WEEKLY and a serious British car enthusiast and I personally guarantee everything I sell on eBay to be as represented.

I don't think I'm communicating how good Ken Quade rebuilds transmissions for British cars. Ken only works on British transmissions and knows all of their strengths and weaknesses. When he finds a weakness, he creates a solution to it. This includes making his own shims and spacers and parts on his lathe. When the unit is rebuilt, Ken has developed a testing apparatus to allow the gearbox to be tested as if it was in the car. He conducts his tests for about a half hour, guaranteeing that the transmission will work perfectly (better than new) when it goes in your car. His work on these units is faultless.

On May 16 we finished restoring a 1968 Triumph TR250 that was the 65th one made. The car has another similar transmission rebuilt by Ken Quade and you cannot believe how smoothly it shifts. Ken is a former engineer and it shows in his work.

Although I prefer this item to be picked up locally, I will ship it at cost or deliver it to some locations that I will be traveling to.

Mercedes A-class at 2012 Geneva motor show

Mon, 05 Mar 2012

Mercedes whisked the covers off the new A-class on the eve of the 2012 Geneva motor show. As predicted, it's a lower, sleeker, more Golf-like alternative to the Golf, sitting 18cm closer to thetarmac. These first official pictures of the new 2012 Mercedes A-class prove the 'tallboy' look is over for good and the production car closely apes the look of the Concept A-class.

Tesla #ModelStranded: the full story

Mon, 10 Dec 2012

The Tesla Model S is an incredible machine. We'll cover the operating experience soon, but right now I've got a story to tell. It started on a Tuesday morning, when a malfunction of the Tesla's charge port kept me stranded 90 miles from my office.

AutoRama: Hot-rodding, chrome and speed return

Fri, 06 Mar 2009

Chop, drop and roll--that's the unofficial motto at AutoRama, the 57th-annual festival of hot rods and custom cars in Detroit. Chop--as in slice the roof off your speedster with some unnatural surgery to the A- and C-pillars. Drop--as in drop the biggest motor you can find under the hood.
