McLaren F1 designer signs on with Florida start-up
Fri, 22 Jul 2011A small Florida company with hopes of making green performance cars has landed a big name. Rivian Automotive said this week that it has signed on Peter Stevens--the designer of the McLaren F1--as its director of design. It hopes to bring its first car to market in 2013 and launch more in 2014.

Mon, 14 Dec 2009A bespoke Ferrari built by the Italian supercar manufacturer's secretive Special Projects department has undergone its first shakedown test at the Fiorano test track. The Pininfarina-designed P540 Superfast Aperta was comissioned in 2008 by the necessarily wealthy Edward Walson, son of John Walson, the inventor of cable television. Based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, the one-off machine was inspired by a Carrozzeria Fantuzzi-designed model featured in the 1968 Fellini film Toby Dammit. 'I had always dreamed of designing sports cars,' said Watson. 'When I saw this film the decision came of its own accord: one day I would have 'my' Ferrari.
Koenigsegg Agera R smashes six Guinness world records: Video
Wed, 30 Nov 2011Koenigsegg, our favorite hard-to-pronounce Swedish supercar manufacturer, got the word on Wednesday that its latest car has broken six world records. The Agera R, which uses a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine, sprinted from 0 to 300 kph (186.4 mph) in a Stephen Hawking-impressing 14.53 seconds. For us nonmetric types, the Agera R also went from 0 to 200 mph in 17.68 seconds; both runs were verified with a Racelogic VBox recorder.
