Nissan to revive Datsun name in emerging markets, eyes increased sales

Nissan is reviving the Datsun name to increase sales in India, Russia and Indonesia, the company said during a visit to Jakarta. Nissan will invest $400 million in Indonesia over the next two years, doubling hiring and tripling the number of dealerships in the region to 90,000. The Datsun name will begin appearing on cars in 2014.

General Motors says Magna's Opel bid has obstacles, RHJ's is easier to accept

General Motors Co. says a bid for Opel from Magna International faces hurdles while a rival offer from Belgian investor RHJ International would be easier to accept. Writing on GM Europe's Web site, John Smith, GM's chief negotiator for the Opel sale, says Magna's bid "contained elements around intellectual property and our Russian operations that simply could not be implemented." Record new car sales anticipated

RECORD new car sales are expected for 2013 after last month's figures showed another strong increase. A total of 157,314 new cars were registered in October - a 4% rise on October last year, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said. The October rise - the 20th successive monthly increase - took the year-so-far total to just over 1.95 million, a 10.2% rise on January-October last year.
