Guggenheim to auction BMW M1 art car
Fri, 13 May 2011The Guggenheim Museum in New York is selling an original BMW M1 art car to raise funds and to make way for other exhibits. Frank Stella painted the Bavarian supercar in 1979, and it has been part of the Guggenheim collection since 1999. BMW has commissioned many art cars since the program launched in 1975, including another M1 by Andy Warhol and a 3.0 CSL also by Stella.
GM agrees to sell Saab to supercar company Koenigsegg
Tue, 16 Jun 2009General Motors confirmed Tuesday morning that it has a tentative agreement to sell Saab to a group led by Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg Automotive. The deal would close by the end of the third quarter and put Saab in the hands of an upstart, boutique car company known for producing eye-catching cars with gaudy horsepower ratings and even gaudier price tags. The agreement includes $600 million in financing from the European Investment Bank.
Porsche Exclusive showcased at museum
Wed, 16 Mar 2011The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, will showcase the 25-year history of the Porsche Exclusive program with an exhibit that runs until May 1. This event celebrates the anniversary of the program, which allows customers to have their factory-fresh cars customized and refined to their specifications. The museum will display the Porsche 911 Turbo S 3.6 that was the first Porsche production car to top 186 mph, or the magical 300-kph mark in Europe.
