What is being offered is a service to repair and restore one customer supplied Smiths magnetic motorcycle tachometer (either greyface or blackface) in ANY RPM range and one customer supplied 120 MPH, 150 MPH or 190 KPH or 250 KPH motorcycle speedometer (either greyface or blackface). Or any combination of say: Two speedometers or two tachometers. The choice is entirely up to you. The winning bid covers the entire cost of the restoration service process for one pair of Smiths magnetic gauge units, whether they work or not when we receive them. Just look at the before and after pictures on this listing to see the quality of the work we do. So what do you get for your money? First we disassemble the cases, repair and calibrate the unit to Smiths factory new specifications, then the needle is hand polished and hand painted in the correct shade of flourescent indicator paint. We then bead blast and powdercoat the inside and outside of the cases in a mirrorlike black gloss for the dual purposes of beauty and to prevent corrosion in the future. Then the insides of the cans are painted with white epoxy paint (the only paint that will not peel or turn to dust for many, many years). This adds a second layer of internal corrosion prevention. Then the blue, light enhancing, paint is sprayed on the one section of the inside, masked off in the EXACT same way and in exactly the same shade as Smiths did it when they were built. This gives a softer shine to the light rather than just harsh white light. A new weather resistant close knit nylon shield is postioned within the case to seal the trip shaft against moisture and inclement weather. This is AEROSPACE grade sealing, far superior to the original foam shield which crumbles in a short while, the parts of which will only foul the instruments internal operating structure. Next, the internal and external shock absorbing rubber biscuit mounts are installed and the NEW bezels which are MADE IN ENGLAND (not Pakistan, India or Thailand, with their incorrect inverted 'V' more rounded than pointy) are added along with the glass, upper and lower rubber glass sealing seals and new non-rusting stainless steel chassis screws / washers. The bezel is then crimped and sealed (under pressure) in EXACTLY the same way Smiths utilized in the manufacturing process four decades ago. Finally, new stainless nuts (the correct BSN outter diameter hex size, not overly large, hardware store nuts like other rebuilders use) and washers for the mounting of these to the stock bracket are added. We then attach a 'TRIP SHAFT WARNING LABEL' with each speedometer service for free. This is a very durable Smiths replacement decal, not the fakes that are being sold on Ebay and elsewhere that the lettering rubs off the first time you clean the glass on your speedometer. This decal will last and last. All refurbished gauge units are warrantied against defects in workmanship and performance for one year from the date we ship the units back to you. Breaching the bezel after you receive it or adjusting screws or removing them invalidates this warranty. Please remember: When purchasing this service that you have the power of purchase protections afforded you by and through PayPal and being able to leave appropriate feedback through Ebay. LASTLY: Matching different tints (where one gauge is very faded and the other is not) is no problem for us. The refurbished gauges you receive will MATCH in tone and tint. However, we are not Vincent VanGogh and his brother Theo. So if your faces are scratched, dented or otherwise damaged we will do our best to touch them up with closely matching paint or aluminum faceplate straightening for FREE. But, be advised, we are not perfect and if there is substantial and SEVERE corrosion or peeling or denting of your faces then this WILL show in the finished product (so please send the best faced gauges you have for resoration.) When you ship us your gauges please let us know officially (by e-mail through the Ebay system) whether you want your refurbished speedometer mileage reset to zero or if you want us to leave the mileage at where it is when we receive the unit. We can do either way for FREE.
Whether you have your gauges rebuilt by us, Nisongers or Precision Instruments additional charges can and do apply in some instances: If you doubt this: Just Google Nisongers or Precision Instruments and give them a call. They will tell you the same thing.

Here are OUR prices which, only if needed, are additional to the cost of the winning bid amount for this service.
1) Missing trip meter shaft. We can (at your request in writing by e-mail) replace your damaged or missing trip meter shaft with a NEW, replacement Smiths trip meter shaft. This is the correct 1 1/2 inch unit not the 2 INCH OVERLY LONG STEM BEING SOLD THROUGH DISTRIBUTORS NATIONWIDE. This cost (owing to the limited supply available) is $20. If you have a spare you are also more than welcome to send us a trip meter shaft for the use in your speedometer for free.
2) Missing trip stem housing / broken teeth on trip shaft reset assembly. Simply put: this is ALWAYS damaged when someone tries to forcefully turn the trip shaft to reset the numbers when they have locked into place. These parts are no longer manufactured, by anyone, anywhere. If yours is missing or the teeth are broken then parts from a donor gauge will have to be used. Thus making for an additional cost for this part of $30. If you happen to have a donor gauge you can send it after being notified of the need for this part to be replaced and, again, you will be notified in writing by e-mail and your ok is required by e-mail before this part will be installed. As before: Naturally the remaining parts from your donor gauge will be returned free of charge with the newly restored gauges. This is a rare instance (usually in only about 5% of the cases) but it does happen.
3) Broken off spring ears of main drive gear in trip reset odometer $25 additional. This problem is indicated when the speedometer is operated and the lower trip odometer numbers do mot turn at all!!! As before, this part is no longer manufactured, so one has to be utilized from our stock inventory.
4) New neck bushing if yours is seized and the needle of the instrument (and its internal operating mechanisms) will not turn at all OR if bushing is excessively worn.. $25
5) Broken gauge mounting stud removed/ stripped stud removed, new one replaced and spot welded into place $15 each. Stud repairs are GUARANTEED to be undetectable when completed.
