Rukka Smart Rider’s Outfit Anatomic
Riding Apparel for the 21st Century

For decades, Rukka has been known to meet tomorrow’s demands with consistent solutions in the present already. Developing and combining innovative technologies is a tradition for Rukka, a recurrent theme throughout the corporate history. The Smart Rider’s Outfit project, spawned in 1999, is a tangible approach to demonstrating what is possible in motorcycling apparel today and which developments can be practically implemented in the near future. The ‘Smart Rider’s Outfit’ project also means an expansion of Rukka’s objectives, from the development of top quality outer clothing towards the projection of fully integrated protective apparel. Thus, the Smart Rider’s Outfit extends Rukka’s well-known motto ‘Defence – Comfort’ by ‘Intelligence’ – intelligence found on a multitude of levels. Today already, the Smart Rider’s Outfit demonstrates tomorrow’s safety and comfort standards while regarding maximum functionality for touring and commuting purposes a top priority.

Since the introduction of the first generation Smart Rider’s Outfit to a wider public at the 2002 Intermot trade fair, the SRO suit represents the best possible combination of all comfort and safety features currently available in textile motorcycling apparel technology.

Now Rukka releases the second generation of the Smart Rider’s Outfit by name of “SRO Anatomic“. Owing to its elastic Cordura outer material and its extremely flexible APSair protectors, the Rukka designers were able to provide the SRO Anatomic with a tighter fit than any Rukka suit so far – without compromising comfort in any way. Thus, the SRO Anatomic even meets the most exacting demands of riders who prefer extremely fast bikes and require minimal aerodynamic drag as well as a high level of comfort.

The new elastic Cordura outer material features a three-layer laminate construction, applying a highly breatheable Gore-Tex XCR climate membrane that excels with an extremely short drying time. In the highly exposed areas, the outer material is extensively reinforced with Kevlar, an especially tear and abrasion-resistant material, in order to ensure maximum safety.
The most ground-breaking novelty that has made its way into the SRO Anatomic is the adoption of breatheable and extremely flexible APSair protectors on ellbows, shoulders, front, back, knees and hips. They not only ensure high comfort and extraordinary freedom of movement, but also outstanding impact absorption – due to their intelligent construction and the astonishing properties of the applied hi-tech silicone that makes the flexible protector become rigid upon impact (see page 55). Rukka uses these protectors, developed and patented by Dow Corning, as a world-first on the market. They enhance the SRO Anatomic to a new level in the synthesis of safety, comfort and functionality.

Apart from that, the SRO Anatomic’s inner lining is equipped with the tried and tested Outlast temperature regulation material. Using so-called Phase Change Materials (PCM) developed for aerospace applications, Outlast maintains a comfortably balanced microclimate inside the protective suit even under changing thermal conditions. The rider gets hot less quickly and also cools down less quickly if the temperature drops – optimum prerequisites for dynamic riders who want to enjoy their hobby without any stress.

But the Rukka SRO Anatomic jacket has even more innovative and functional details, among them for example the newly designed collar, which is especially high and has a soft neoprene border lining. To achieve complete draught protection, the Rukka SRO Anatomic jacket comes standard with a removable, elastic Gore-Tex neck warmer to be zipped inside the jacket. The same material is used for the inner part of the two-ply sleeve ends which were designed to provide the perfect connection between sleeves and gloves: draught- and waterproof, non-flap and at the same time easily and comfortable to put on. The waterproof front zipper runs diagonally in order to minimize the formation of folds when riding in a sporty riding position.

The SRO Anatomic jacket is equipped with a large, easily accessible pocket on the front. Small items can be carried in the small pocket above the waistband. The pockets are waterproof even without a wind flap due to their sophisticated zippers. An additional, suspended inner pocket within the large front pocket leaves no chance for any water to break in even if the pocket is opened in the rain. An inside pocket with a cell phone compartment tops off the pocket capacity.

The Rukka SRO Anatomic trousers’ removable lining is equipped with Outlast fabric like the inner jacket to even out temperature changes. The trousers are worn above the boots to prevent water running into them.
In the seat area, the Rukka SRO Anatomic trousers feature the Rukka AirCushion System as inner lining. This innovative material acts as a climate buffer that reduces condensation to considerably enhance riding comfort. On the outside, the Rukka SRO Anatomic trousers are equipped with non-slip Antiglide-Keprotec. A Velcro waist adjuster on each side and removable braces guarantee a perfect fit at all times. The braces come as standard, but these trousers can also be worn without them. Instead of buttons, the braces have double Velcro strips.

Jaguar C-XF concept car (2007) teaser image

Fri, 15 Dec 2006

By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 15 December 2006 04:12 Jaguar has issued this tantalising teaser of its new XF - the car that will replace the S-type exec next year. The covers will be whisked off this concept car at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2007 proving that, finally, Jaguar is throwing off its stuffy image after years of safe, retro-styled saloons. Although this tightly cropped teaser shot doesn't reveal the whole car, it's plain to see that the new S-type will look forwards, not over its shoulder at the famous saloons in Jag's potted history.

Peugeot 308 CC (2008): first photos

Fri, 11 Jul 2008

By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 11 July 2008 09:26 Peugeot – the pioneer of folding hard tops – today unveils the new 308 CC. It's not a radical coupe cabriolet, but it's a gentle evolution of the 307 CC blueprint: a four-seater family hatch turned convertible. The French company invented the first production opening metal roof back in the 1930s, after a few coachbuilders toyed with low-volume concepts, and then brought them to the mainstream with the 206 CC in 2001. The new 308 CC follows the same formula with a metal roof that somersaults into its loadbed in 20 seconds to leave a completely flat (if long) rear deck.Gobbling boot space as it goes?Naturally, the  boot shrinks when the roof is lowered, dipping from 465 litres to 266 when it's stowed.
