XFR Jag the fastest ever
Tue, 13 Jan 2009They took with them the usual holiday toys, but they remembered to pack a nice new Jaguar XFR, with a few mods necessary to run at Bonneville (roll cage, fire extinguishers, etc). They had a little fiddle with the ECU to derestrict it (and yield 600bhp) but, it is claimed, made no further mods apart from adding a spoiler at the back to stop the XFR taking off on the Salt Flats’ wide open spaces. And we knew – because they ‘hinted’ at it when we spoke to them last week – that the whole Top Gear segment had more than a little to do with the Paramount Group in South Africa, purveyors of innovative armoured vehicles. So, as suspected, we were treated to Richard conquering the Urban Jungle of Johannesburg in the Paramount Marauder, an aptly-named, go anywhere, seemingly indestructible piece of military hardware made street-legal.
Honda plans gasoline engine for the CR-Z
Tue, 07 Dec 2010Honda is set to provide the CR-Z with an all-new four-cylinder gasoline-engine option as part of plans to broaden the compact coupe's appeal in key world markets, including North America. Currently available with just one engine option—a gasoline-electric hybrid system that mates a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a brushless electric motor—the CR-Z is also earmarked to receive a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine currently undergoing development in Japan. The new unit, which is also planned for the Jazz, the Civic and the Accord, forms an integral part of an engine downsizing program instigated at Honda.
