Scan Tool Companion is a quick reference guide for ALL scan tool users for help with 1996 and newer OBD II cars and trucks.

This program provides guidance and help on how to use scan tool data when you are trying to troubleshoot Check Engine Light problems, driveability problems, emissions problems or engine performance problems.  Can be used with  ANY scan tool on ANY make or model of 1996 or newer vehicle with OBD II.

Once you have read out a fault code with a code reader or scan tool, you refer to the Scantool Companion program for guidance.  The program lists possible causes of various types of problems by code, by symptom or by emission control system.  It's like having an expert technician at your fingertips to help you with your diagnosis.

NOTE:  This software does NOT interface with your vehicle.  In other words, it is NOT scanner software.  You still need some type of scan tool or scanner software to read the fault code(s) and data on your vehicle.  What this software does is help make sense of the codes and data on your scan tool so you can fix your car.   The software lists possible causes by type of code or fault, tells what components you should check, and what PIDs might shed light on the nature of the fault.

The software lists the types of PIDs commonly displayed by do-it-yourself level scan tools (which will vary depending on the year/make/model of the vehicle, and the sophistication of the scan tool).

Basic scan tools read codes and display basic OBD II PID data (sensor values, the status of various systems and switches), but they do NOT tell you what might be causing a fault or what to replace.  Expensive professional level scan tools have software that can provide a certain amount of  "guided diagnostics" -- which is what Scantool Companion attempts to do.  Think of it as a "poor man's" version of the professional guided diagnostics software that is found in scan tools costing thousands of dollars!

For example, say your Check Engine light is on and you have a P0171 or P0174 lean code.  Now what do you do?  The code does not tell you what to check or what component to replace.  It only tells you the engine has a lean fuel condition.  Scan Tool Companion gives you a list of POSSIBLE CAUSES, and tells you WHAT TO CHECK and HOW TO CHECK IT.  This is the kind of information that can help you fix your problem correctly the first time.

FEATURES include:

* Diagnose problems by Symptom, By Code or by System.

Scan Tool Companion tells you the most likely causes of symptoms or codes, tells you what to check, and
what PIDS (data parameters) you need to look at with your scan tool to identify the fault.
It also offers expert tips on what parts might need to be replaced and why.
It's like having an expert technician at your fingertips to help you make your diagnosis.

This kind of guided diagnostics is only available in the most expensive professional grade scan tools.

There is even information on Mode 06 diagnostics, what it is, how to access it and how to use it.

* Saves you time, frustration and replacing the wrong parts!

* The program also contains sections to help you better understand the basics of your vehicle's onboard diagnostic system (OBD II), including what it does, how it monitors various sensors and systems, and why it sets fault codes.

* A handy OBD II fault code look-up page that allows you to look up generic DTC codes by number or type of fault ("generic" OBD II powertrain codes only that are common to all OBD II compliant vehicles).

* Tips on how to pass an OBD II "plug-in" emission test (what's required, what they look at, what to do if your vehicle is rejected or fails).

* Quick reference sections on basic sensor operation, fuel injection, ignition and emissions.

NOTE: This software does NOT interface with your vehicle or make your PC function as a scan tool.
It is training software designed to help you make better use of ANY scan tool you already own so you can more accurately diagnose and repair faults that turn on your Check Engine light.

Scan Tool Companion runs direct from the CD or can be installed on your PC hard drive.

Runs on ANY Windows PC  or laptop with Windows XP, Vista or 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) or 8 (but NOT Win8RT for tablets).

Requires CD or DVD drive to read disk.

Will NOT run on Apple/MAC.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  This is copyrighted software and is licensed to the purchaser for individual use only.  This software may NOT be copied, shared, resold or redistributed.  If you see this product or any other Carley Software software products listed anywhere else on ebay, the seller should be reported for selling pirated software.

International Buyers:
For buyers anywhere outside the U.S., I will send you the software by email as a zip file download rather than mailing you the software on a CD.
International mail can be very slow, and CDs are often damaged, lost or stolen in transit.
Many countries also impose duty taxes on products purchased from outside their own country.

NOTE: This software is also included on the EVERYTHING CD we sell (see our other ebay listings), so do NOT bid on this item if you are also bidding on the Everything CD.

BMW X1 US launch delayed – because the new X3 is so good

Wed, 04 May 2011

BMW X1 - not in the US until late 2012 It would have beenĀ inconceivableĀ just a few years ago that there could ever be a market in the US for a car like the BMW X1. But times have changed and even Americans see the benefits of a (much) smaller SUV, so BMW was originally planning on launching the X1 in the US around now. That X1 launch got put back until later in 2011 because the Leipzig plant – which builds the X1 – was running at capacity to meet the demands from Europe.

Color Conscious: Hues show off new technology, segments

Mon, 05 Oct 2009

Henry Ford was quite content to offer one color on the Model T--black. Take it or leave it, as the legend goes. But that was in the days when horses were still considered primary transportation for many Americans.

2015 Lincoln MKC pricing announced

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

We've been impressed with the 2015 Lincoln MKC so far, but price and performance are going to have a lot to do with whether or not these crossovers will fly off lots when they go on sale next year. We're still waiting for a test drive, but at least we now have a better grasp of the MKC's pricing structure. The crossover will be offered in three basic trims: Premiere, Select and Reserve.
