New York City Taxi of Tomorrow plans hit a roadblock

Thu, 10 Oct 2013

New York City administration's plan to replace current taxi cabs with the specially developed Nissan Taxi of Tomorrow has been stymied by a recent legal decision, the Wall Street Journal is reporting. The New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan (it's a bit confusing, but this is actually the on the level of the lowest state courts in New York state's court system) has issued a decision which determined the project to be an overreach of executive authority, siding with taxi magnate Evgeny Freidman and the Greater New York Taxi Association. We hope Simon LeBon's mysterious “treasure in the dark” wasn't a turbocharger. If the Duran Duran frontman deigns to pick up a Hyundai Veloster RE:FLEX, he won't be getting one. The RE:FLEX package, announced at the Chicago Auto Show adds chrome 18” wheels, extra brightwork on the door handles and hood, a passel of LEDs, a pair of light-up doorsills and the standard 138-hp, 1.6L engine.

And if you want a luxury 4×4/SUV, but can’t bear the disapprobation of the tree-huggers and eco-loonies, then this is an equally good place to start.
