Maybach reaches end of the line
Fri, 25 Nov 2011Daimler AG is set to announce the closure of its Maybach ultra luxury brand this weekend, according to reports. The underperforming 57 and 62 limousines are to be killed off in 2013, following a decision from chairman Dieter Zetsche who has elected not to invest in their respective replacements for 2014. Following a concept car preview at the 1997 Tokyo motor show, Maybach was resurrected in 2002 after Daimler AG failed to purchase either Rolls-Royce or Bentley from then owners, Vickers.

In DaimlerChrysler's words: "Despite its boxy, cube-shaped body, this tropical fish is in fact outstandingly streamlined and therefore represents an aerodynamic ideal". This 4240mm long car that seats four has a Cd value of just 0.19 which, in combination with light-weight construction and an advanced diesel powertrain, gives 20% lower fuel consumption and up to 80% lower nitrogen oxide emissions. This reduction in NO2 is achieved by spraying 'AdBlue', an aqueous urea solution, into the exhaust system in precisely metered quantities to convert the nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water, so even if it looks like it should, it shouldn't smell fishy...
Design Contest: Ferrari 'New Concepts of the Myth'
Wed, 23 Nov 2005Automotive design students from all over the world gathered in Maranello this week for the award ceremony of the 'Ferrari - New Concepts of the Myth' design competition. The winners were announced and awarded their prizes at Galleria Ferrari, within walking distance of Ferrari headquarters and Ferrari's Fiorano test track. The coveted prizes are six months of exciting and very demanding work at Ferrari and Pininfarina creative centres, under the leadership of Ferrari's Donato Coco (in Maranello) and Pininfarina's Ken Okuyama (in Torino).
