But as car makers have got better at securing the second most expensive asset most of us will ever own, car thieves have had to look for a different approach, and that approach is increasingly to relieve owners of the keys to their pride and joy. Cobra – the vehicle tracking firm – are reporting that a massive 70 per cent of all premium brand cars stolen in 2014 – with an average value of £40k, up £6k on 2012 – are being parted from their owners using that owners keys.

This means the revised V40 line-up now offers an impressive performance to efficiency ratio, with 190hp on offer in the D4 turbodiesel variant, returning a claimed 74.3mpg combined with 99g/km CO2 when mated to the six-speed manual. But ahead of that debut – and, it would seem, a reveal in 41 days time at the first LA press day – Porsche has launched a new microsite for the Macan to tease and inform Porsche fans and potential buyers. What Porsche are at pains to point out is that the Macan isn’t a compact SUV but a five door, five seat Sports Car that just happens to have a raised ride height.
