New Mercedes CLA: First photos

We have the first photos of the production version of the new Mercedes CLA due to debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The photos are quite stylised, but they do look like the real deal. They also look like they’re a version of the new CLA sporting the AMG Styling Packs rather than photos of the CLA 45 AMG (the CLA 45 AMG won’t arrive until Frankfurt 2013).

General Motors is directing $204 million of a $2 billion investment in its U.S. plants toward building an eight-speed automatic transmission in Toledo. Automakers are turning to transmissions with more gears to meet more stringent fuel-economy regulations.

Peel P50 back in business

Did you know you can buy a brand new Peel P50? That’s the tiny three-wheeled microcar Jeremy Clarkson famously drove around the inside of BBC Television Centre for an episode of Top Gear in 2007, and holder of the Guinness world’s smallest production car title for over 50 years. Turns out it was put back into production in 2010, and is now assembled under licence by a company called Grasshopper in Nottingham.
