Its pleasingly idiosyncratic range of cars – ultra modern, finely crafted and mostly fun to drive – have been hamstrung in the showrooms by a range of V6 and V8 petrol engines which have been designed for customers in Los Angeles or Boston, not London or Berlin. Of a diesel, there has been no sign.

Frankly, the exterior design sketches were nothing more than a tease of what’s on offer – and doubtless far more dramatic than the real 2015 Sorento will be – and the teaser sketches of the interior are even less revealing of what will be on offer.
