SoftSand particles are rubber-based granules specifically designed for coatings applications. These colorful particles will help provide a comfortable, skid resistant surface, and will work in most urethane, epoxy, and acrylic coatings. SoftSand rubber particles can be blended together, and used with paints to provide truly unique, functional and decorative coatings.

Conventional Application

SoftSand Rubber Particles can be used in the same manner as sand and other commonly available skid resistant additives. The particles can be either mixed directly into the paint, or they can be sprinkled onto the wet paint, after it has been applied. SoftSand rubber is compatible with most urethane, epoxy and acrylic paints.

Mix and Go method

SoftSand Rubber can be mixed into the paint, and applied with either a paint brush or roller. As with other non-skid aggregates, the appropriate mix ratio can vary. In general, 10-20% SoftSand rubber particles by weight will provide a desirable textured finish for a non-slip surface. For most paints, this ratio amounts to one-quarter (¼) pint of SoftSand particles for quart  (or 1 pint per gallon) of paint.

Brush or Roller

You can use either a brush or a roller to apply the mixture of paint and SoftSand rubber. Slight differences in appearance may occur depending on which method you choose. In some cases, the particles will accentuate the pattern left by brush strokes. A second coat of paint, which is generally recommended, will reduce this affect.

A roller with a tight nap tends to apply a nice uniform coating of paint and particles. The roller tends to deposit the particles in small, evenly distributed clusters. These clusters lead to a slightly more aggressive profile than the broadcast method described below. As with brushing, a second coat of paint is recommended.

Sprinkling or Broadcasting onto Paint

Apply a coat of paint to the surface.  While still wet, broadcast (sprinkle) the particles onto the painted surface.  Allow the paint to fully dry and then remove any loose particles (which may be reused).  Apply a coat of paint over the surface of the particles. For every 100 squarte feeo of area, use approximately 1-2 quarts of fine, 2-3 quarts of Medium and 3-4 quarts of coarse.

Mazda diesel delayed again

Thu, 09 Jan 2014

If you've been waiting for a Mazda 6 diesel, prepare to wait a bit longer. After delaying the US launch until Spring 2014, Mazda now says it won't meet that target date either. Mazda says the engine meets current emissions standards using only a particulate filter, but the resulting blend of performance and fuel economy isn't up to snuff.

Next Jaguar XJ to be more like a Mercedes S Class?

Thu, 13 Sep 2012

Jaguar boss Ralph Speth wants the next generation Jaguar XJ to be less individual and more like the Mercedes S Class and BMW 7 Series. The ‘new’ Jaguar XJ has been with us since 2009. Well, it’s been around since it was revealed in 2009, although it took another year to actually get in to the hands of customers.
