AGI-1 — a fighter gyrohorizon. One of the first Soviet gyrohorizons.

It was developed in the late fifties of the XX century in the USSR. Checks of working capacity took place in various modes from 1957 to 1960. On these checks correct operation of the device in all modes of flight has been proved, including a corkscrew then serial planes have begun to be completed with the device.

However, this gyrohorizon demanded preliminary training of pilots before his use — because of the turned indication on pitch and the return indication on a list that wasn't intuitively clear to an aircrew.

Accidents of the Tu-104 planes have led to the fact that in 1958 the staff of State Civil Aviation Research Institute, in particular S. L. Belogorodsky, it was offered to modernize AGI-1 gyrohorizon used generally by high-maneuverable planes for a possibility of his use by civilian airliners. This modernization has solved other burning issue - has become possible to install on civilian jet airliners a reserve gyrohorizon which would be capable to work in the conditions of a strong list or at big corners of pitch. The modernized gyrohorizon of AGI-1S was applied by planes Tu-104, Tu-114, Tu-124, Tu-134, Il-18, An-12, etc. [1][2]
Use

This device was installed by planes MiG-15, MiG-17, YAK-18, YAK-50, YAK-52, An-28, SU-7, Tu-124 and some other. I have now remained on the YAK-52 and An-28 planes.

However, the 875 horsepower car won’t be parked on a stand but driven in anger up the famous Goodwood hill by its record-breaking driver, multiple world rally champion Sébastien Loeb. And just to add some spice to proceedings, there’s talk of an attempt to break the longstanding 41.6 second time to complete the 1.16-mile course - set by Nick Heidfeld in a McLaren Formula One car in 1999.

Fri, 01 May 2009

BMW 750 Hybrid will launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009 [ad#ad-1] Hybrid cars are starting to make their presence felt in the market place, and even at the top end of luxury saloons the market is moving in that direction. Whether you buy in to the planet-saving ethos or not, it’s hard to argue against something that costs less to run and helps you be perceived as a caring, sharing conscientious member of society – even if you drive a huge great Merchant-Banker-mobile! Lexus have made inroads with their LS 600, and recently we reported that Mercedes has not just given the Mercedes S Class a mid-cycle refresh, but has announced the imminent launch of the Mercedes S400 Hybrid.
