Lotus, Toyota celebrate engine deal
Fri, 17 Sep 2010Lotus CEO Dany Bahar presented Toyota president Akio Toyoda with a Lotus Elise this week at the British Embassy in Tokyo, celebrating the companies' long partnership. The Elise was equipped with Toyota's last 2ZZ-GE VVTL-i engine, the same engine found in older versions of the Lotus Elise and Exige. “The presentation of Toyota's last 2ZZ engine in the Elise is a symbolic gesture of our continued respect and deep appreciation for our partner not only acknowledging our past, but also looking forward to our future together,” Bahar said in a statement.
Tesla recalls Roadster for short in power cable, fire risk
Tue, 05 Oct 2010Tesla Motors is recalling its electric Roadster 2.0 and 2.5 models because a power cable may short and catch fire. The 12-volt cable, located behind the right-front headlight, could rub against the carbon-fiber paneling causing the cable to short, begin smoking and possibly catch fire, Tesla said. The cable is part of a backup system that powers the headlights, taillights, turn signals and airbags if the primary 12-volt cable fails.
Christopher Reitz joins Riversimple
Mon, 13 Dec 2010Former Alfa Romeo Director of Design, Christopher Reitz, has joined the UK-based open-source car company, Riversimple. In a statement on Riversimple's website, Reitz said: "This really is a step into something different, to design cars that really are the future. Increasingly I have felt that it does not make much sense to move tons of steel around, using a lot of fuel and resources.
