Elliot Handler,the inventor of Hot Wheels die-cast toy cars, died July 21 at his home in Southern California. He was 95 years old. Handler and his wife, Ruth, and family friend Matt Matson founded the Mattel toy company in 1945.

MOST motorists still prefer printed maps when planning car journeys, according to an AA/Populus survey. Older drivers are the least happy with sat-nav, with only 9% of over-65s ditching printed maps altogether. Overall, 63% of the 23,824 drivers polled have used a printed map in the last six months, while 60% have used an in-car sat nav.

Honda's Urban SUV Concept has made its World Debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The concept measures in at 4,300mm - 228mm shorter than the CR-V - and is designed to be ideal for navigating in cities and on open mountain roads.
