Variously known as "Przasnicza", "Don Kichot", or "Don Quixote",
the J-1 was designed by Jaroslaw Janowski in 1967. It featured a single seat
enclosed cockpit, conventional (taildragger) landing gear, and a pusher prop
configuration. Wings were shoulder mounted and strut-braced, with a 13% thick
Clark "Y" airfoil and no flaps.
With the help of Witold Kalita, the prototype was constructed in Poland and
first flown on July 30, 1970. It weighed 286 lbs empty, and was constructed mostly
of wood with a steel tube frame and fabric covering. Wings were constructed with
one-piece ribs and a plywood covered leading edge "D-section". Power was provided
by a two cylinder 23 hp "Saturn 500B" engine which was also designed by Janowski
and constructed by S. Polawski.
The easy availability of the VW engine in the West prompted Janowski to redesign
the structure to support added weight and power. The wing span was slightly reduced
and the steel tube frame eliminated at this time. The resulting configuration was
designated the J-1B and could be constructed in either wood or composite
(foam & glass) versions.

The Peugeot 207 Sportium
It’s moving metal time again; that slow old time that starts once the new September registration fever has worn off, and before the new year arrives. And one of the best ways to move metal – or at least get punters to come and have a look – is to launch a limited edition model with some cut-price kit bolted on. So we get the Peugeot 207 Sportium, which Peugeot says “…builds on the already comprehensive standard specification of the previous special edition 207 Millesim model”.

Another follow up from an earlier teaser shot is this, the 2012 Subaru Impreza, which is making its debut at the NY auto show. Digressing further from its infamous rally-bred history, the latest Impreza is being billed as the most economical AWD car for sale in the US market, and Subaru is also keen to stress the increased ride comfort and interior space of this model, which is claimed to offer unprecedented levels of refinement from an Impreza. The cars exterior, however, does have some nostalgic references, with the bold arches said to 'emphasize its sporty roots and standard All-Wheel Drive performance'.
