Mon, 31 Mar 2014As Mitsubishi shifts its global lineup toward utility vehicles and electrified cars, it will pull the plug on the Lancer Evolution at the end of the nameplate's current generation. “Mitsubishi Motors does not have any plans to design a successor with the current concept, as a high-performance four-wheel drive gasoline-powered sedan,” spokeswoman Namie Koketsu said, describing the car as having “icon” status. “Mitsubishi Motors will explore the possibilities of high-performance models that incorporate electric vehicle technology.” Dropping the Evo was foreshadowed last fall when President Osamu Masuko unveiled a new mid-term business plan that would deprioritize in-house sedans and explore sourcing them through joint projects with the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

Of course, we’ve already seen much of what the F-Type Coupe will offer in the C-X16 Concept – the basis for the F-Type – when that was revealed a year ago, but we hadn’t expected to see it as the F-Type Coupe until at least Geneva 2013. Car makers are slowly waking up to the joys of the Interweb as a way to promote their wares, and they’re all busy feeding their Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and YouTube channels with new content to keep fans amused. It’s never exactly the most unbiased content so it often needs taking with a pinch of Maldon’s finest, but YouTube, in particular, gives car makers the chance to showcase their cars in action, and if they can do that and makes ‘fans’ feel a part of it, so much the better.
