The original Yanmar product is made
from thin .060 stainless tubing and is welded. Please see the picture of
the sectioned parts where the brand new Yanmars weld penetration is less than
desirable. HDI Marine elbows are all precision investment
cast 316 stainless. Our flange thickness is 50%
thicker Yanmar's .220 / 5.7mm HDI Marine's .320 /
8.2mm Our tube thickness is 60% thicker
Yanmar's .062 / 1.5mm HDI Marine's .097 / 2.5mm Our design using thicker tubing does
not constrict the exhaust. We maintained the OEM inside diameter and
increased the outside diameter to compensate for the thicker wall tubes.
This allows the same volume of water and exhaust gases to escape. We
narrowed the outside diameter back down after the exhaust tube ends to maintain
the proper hose size.
I started making these
stainless steel mixing elbows when my Yanmar iron elbow failed me. I was shocked at the cost and the fact they
were still cast iron. As most of us
know; salt water, heat & cast iron don't work well together. When I
realized I could fix this, not only for me but for other boat owners around the
world, I couldn’t help but try.
I am a manufacturing engineer and have
specialized in castings for over 25 years. These parts are guaranteed for 2
years but should last a lifetime. I installed the first one I made into my
4LH-STE in 2005. It still looks new inside and out. The product line has grown
only from people asking me to make products for their engine, after stumbling
upon another elbow for a different model.
I take a lot of pride in my products; you will see and feel the quality
when you receive it.
Please note OEM's have
made different mixing elbows for the same engines. Example: Yanmar has equipped the 4LH-STE with
5 different elbows to accommodate changes in horsepower and engine mounting
location in relationship to waterline.
They also change their part numbers often. My experience is that comparing a picture is
always worth more than paying to ship it back.

Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera teases Geneva concept car
Wed, 15 Feb 2012Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera has released a teaser image of its 2012 Disco Volante Concept, which will debut at next month's Geneva motor show. In 1952, the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring teamed up with Alfa Romeo to create a series of special-bodied cars to trial new technologies as well as being easily adaptable for racing. Perhaps the most famous (and beautiful) was the 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante (C52) which was based on the Alfa 1900, with both coupe and Spider convertible bodies produced.
