The Porsche P1 is lighter, greener and more exclusive than McLaren's new hypercar
Mon, 27 Jan 2014Long before the legendary Porsche 911 -- before, even, the Porsche 356 -- Ferdinand Porsche was tinkering with alternative powertrains and designing road-worthy vehicles. Though it wasn't the first vehicle to bear his name, the “Egger-Lohner electric vehicle, C.2 Phaeton model” was the earliest result of his efforts. Perhaps getting the jump on the modern alpha-numeric craze/plague, it was shortened to a simple “P1.” The P1 (we'll refer to it as the Porsche P1 from here on out to avoid confusion) made its first appearance in Vienna on June 26, 1898, and it didn't last long in the public eye: Before Porsche decided to pull it out and put it on display, it had reportedly been sitting in a warehouse, untouched, since 1902.
2012 BMW M5: Official Photos leak
Wed, 15 Jun 2011The BMW M5 2012 - total photo leak Actually, it’s not the first time we’ve had a leak of photos of the 2012 BMW M5. Back in April – after a private BMW event to show off the new M5 – we had some photos sneakily snapped by one of the attendees on their mobile, or so it seemed. But this leak of photos of the 2012 BMW M5 is a different kettle of fish altogether - these are low-ish resolution versions of an official set of photos of the new M5.
Super-Mercs storm in
Fri, 29 Sep 2006By Ben Whitworth Motor Industry 29 September 2006 08:18 Mercedes pulled the wraps off not one but two muscle-bound AMG monsters at the Paris show – the CL63 and S63. Powered by AMG’s formidable 6.3-litre V8 that pumps out 525bhp at a screaming 6800rpm and 465lb ft of twist action at 5200rpm, the uber Mercs will both hit 60mph in 4.6seconds and are electronically reined in at 155mph. Given their flagship position in the Mercedes thoroughbred stable, both cars are naturally fitted with every single acronym in Mercedes’ safety, braking, luxury and performance lexicon.
