So let’s all give this crazy group of ex-NASA and James Bond stunt engineers a big round of applause, because that’s exactly what they are trying to achieve. Mitsubishi plans to halt U.S. production of 3 models in August

Mitsubishi will stop making three models at its Normal, Ill., plant in August. Production of the Eclipse coupe, Eclipse Spyder and Endeavor crossover will cease, while the Galant sedan will continue to be built, said Yoichi Yokozawa, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America. A decision on when to end Galant production will be made later, Yokozawa said.

As exclusively predicted by CAR Online last month, the EC is proposing an average CO2 limit of 130g/km by 2012 - down from an average of 162g/km last year. Manufacturers missing the new target would be fined heavily.
