Porsche Cayman and Boxster GTS on the way

Porsche Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS variants are expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show this year, before the upgraded versions of the German firm’s two-seater coupe and convertible models go on sale in April. According to reports, development work on both cars is now almost complete, with both vehicles gaining a power increase and revised styling over existing Cayman and Boxster models (pictured). Toyota tests chips that improve hybrid efficiency by 10 percent

Toyota announced on Tuesday that it has developed a new semiconductor, claiming it can boost fuel efficiency in hybrid cars by an impressive 10 percent. The semiconductors manage the flow of electricity through the power-control unit that connects the battery to an electric or hybrid car's motor and generator. The newly developed semiconductors are said to consume only a tenth of the energy of today's chips, while allowing the power-control unit to be 80 percent smaller.

BMW i3 caught testing in New York

BMW has been hyping its futuristic i lineup for years now, but the long lead time doesn't mean that the highly efficient, carbon-fiber-based vehicles are vaporware. Earlier this month, we test drove pre-production versions of the i3 and i8, and last week, Autoweek reader Frank Cogliano spied the former vehicle on the road. Cogliano caught this wrapped i3 near Stony Point, New York -- about 30 minutes from BMW's New Jersey headquarters.
