GM now has a code that must be programmed into each stereo that is installed into a vehicle so that it will sync with the vehicle making it more difficult for thefts.

This stereo came out of my 2004 Trailblazer (did not have OnStar).

I have since sold it but can prove that I owned the vehicle with other paper work that has the VIN number on it.

It was working when it came out so I know that it is still working today once you get the code from the dealership to sync with your vehicle.
