STUDEBAKER 289 ci & TH700/R4 TRANSMISSION Oil "full flow" block bored .030 over with R1 pistons, R1 reground cam, R1 cam gear, and R1 crankshaft turned .010 or .020. Rotating assembly balanced. Lower compression 58cc heads (1535976 ) used for today's gasoline. R1 HEADS WERE 54cc. NEVER INSTALLED IN CHASSIS. HAS APPROX 1 HR RUN TIME ON RUN-UP STAND FOR CAM SHAFT BREAK TIME. Engine comes with AFB carb, rebuilt power steering pump, new one wire alternator, Delco "window" dist. and A/C compressor mount brackets. All machine work done by Wayne Calvert Precision Engines in Denton, Tx.. Goggle him for his qualifications. Call him for a reference to my work ( Sam McIntyre ). I rebuilt my first Studebaker engine in 1954 or 55. This engine was to be for my last project. I built Chevy race engines for Street and Hot stocks, Modified and Sprint car classes. This engine has an adapter kit installed and dialed in for the installation of the Chevy Th700/R4 transmission. Phoenix Transmissions in Weatherford, Tx. provided this tranny. Their guarantee to me was to start the first day I drove the car. I do not know if it is transferable. 'Spen' King, father of the Range Rover, dies
Mon, 28 Jun 2010Charles Spencer "Spen" King, a British engineer and father of the original Range Rover, died on June 26 at age 85. King passed away as a result of injuries sustained when his bicycle collided with a van earlier this month. King entered the auto business in 1942 as an apprentice for Rolls-Royce before going to work for his uncles, Spencer and Maurice Wilks, at Rover.
