DesignBoom has teamed up with Renault to create a unique design competition. With the Renault 4 entering its 50th year, the aim of the competition is to redesign and recreate the classic R4. The free-to-enter competition is open to anyone, not just design students and professionals.

BMW i3 grabs new award

THE REVOLUTIONARY BMW i3 electric car has been awarded the top prize in the first UK Car of the Year Awards. After grabbing the prize for Best Supermini the i3 won the overall title in the new awards, as voted for by a group of 27 respected UK-based motoring journalists. In the overall vote, which featured the likes of the Porsche Cayman, Range Rover Sport, BMW 5 Series, Citroen C4 Grand Picasso and Audi A3, almost half of the 27-strong judging panel chose the i3.

Saab files for reorganization, seeks $1 billion to survive

Saab is seeking $1 billion (793 million euros) to be self-financing, the company said on Friday after it filed for reorganization under a self-managed Swedish court process. The General Motors-owned Swedish brand said it will work "to create an independent business entity" and will concentrate production, design and engineering in Sweden. Saab said it would continue to operate as normal during the reorganization process, with GM and the Swedish government providing some support.
