General Motors says Magna's Opel bid has obstacles, RHJ's is easier to accept

General Motors Co. says a bid for Opel from Magna International faces hurdles while a rival offer from Belgian investor RHJ International would be easier to accept. Writing on GM Europe's Web site, John Smith, GM's chief negotiator for the Opel sale, says Magna's bid "contained elements around intellectual property and our Russian operations that simply could not be implemented." Expect to see the two-door's sleek look transferred to the regular saloon, with the taut waistline and nose treatment essentially carried over. The A5 is Audi's new mid-sized coupe and it's aimed squarely at the likes of the BMW 3-series coupe and Mercedes CLK.

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Goodwood FoS debut

The estate version of the Mercedes-Benz CLS – the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake – will debut at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake – well, a concept CLS SB – bowed in at the Beijing Motor Show in 2010 and although we’ve seen it running around the roads, it’s seemed no closer to production. But it looks like Mercedes has now had long enough to play with the oxymoron that is a coupe estate and the CLS Shooting Brake will get its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of June.
