Greetings from lovely Fredericksburg VA. I have an old friend, that used to restore RMs. These are some wheels and parts, leftover from those endeavors. Two rear wheels, one rear hub and spoke kit, one rear rim, one front spoke kit. WHEEL ONE: Wrapping indicates "RM 250/370 REAR. NOT TRUED". This wheel has been laced and 'run-up' ('run-up' = The spokes are all correctly placed and are finger tight). This one has NOS aftermarket rim, labeled 'Slinger Hardened'. The rim is new, but does have some nicks and scratches, from shelf wear, etc. The hub is freshly powder-coated, in flat black and looks great. New bearings installed and the spacer is inside the hub (amazing how often they go missing). The spoke kit is new, either zinc or cadmium plated. WHEEL TWO: Same rim as wheel one and in same condition. Hub is freshly powder-coated in satin black, looks great and seems to be identical (dimensionally) to wheel one. New bearings installed and the spacer is in there. Spoke kit is polished stainless and from Buchanan's. This wheel is also laced and 'run-up. Note: there are two (2) nipples missing. (not a problem, as they are available. See below.). If you are not a 'wheel guy', and there are precious few of us left, that are any good, you will be taking these wheels to have them completed. If you are a 'wheel guy', then carry on. HUB ONE: Inside, of brake side, indicates '77 78' . Freshly powder-coated in satin black, looks great and seems to be, dimensionally, the same as both of the wheels. New bearings installed and the spacer is in this one too. SPOKE KIT ONE: Polished stainless, from Buchanan;s and same as kit, used on Wheel Two. This good, as this kit is the key to getting missing nipples (for Wheel Two). You provide the numbers, off of this bag of nipples, to Buchanan's and they will send what you need, to complete Wheel Two. Simple. SPOKE KIT TWO: Label on bag indicates 'RM250 Front'. New, aftermarket either zinc or cadmium plated. Correct number of spokes and nipples in the bag. RIM: No markings inside or out. 18" inch and 36 spoke holes. two rim-lock holes, so def. a rear. Slightly narrower than the other two (250? older ?). Freshly powder-coated in satin black. Looks to be new aftermarket (then was coated).
OK, so here's 'The Deal': I want to sell all of this as one 'lot'. No cherry pickin'. You buy all of it and then 'flip' what you don't need. You suck up the shipping costs and then have a nice 'RM stash', for later projects. I have some boxes set aside that I can mod, for the wheels, and they will travel just fine. All of this stuff will be very well packed, I assure you. Since E-bay's shipping 'calculator' is notoriously inaccurate, here is what you need, to do your homework. Ship from zip is 22401. I use UPS ground. Figure two boxes approx 24 X 24 X 16. One at 20 lbs., the other at 25 lbs. One box at 16 X 16 X 16 and weighing 15 lbs. So that's three (3) boxes. Ebay calculator will reflect only one box ! All of it will be insured. My guess is shipping (with packing and insurance), to west coast, would be around $100. Yes, I'm charging you a bit for the packing. It's gonna take 3+ hours to do it. No whining, please. This is a NO RESERVE listing, and starts very low. Somebody is going to get a bunch of cool stuff, way below market value. Best of luck and thanks for looking.     Cheers.

PS, Please, don't be wasting our time. No E-mails asking for more pictures, or measurements, or casting numbers, blah, blah, blah.

McLaren plan to make windscreen wipers obsolete

Sun, 15 Dec 2013

McLaren plan to make windscreen wipers obsolete Much of the ‘clunkiness’ in cars – stuff like wind-up windows and a cranking handle – have been made obsolete in cars as technology arrived to make things work better, but one thing that remains on modern cars from the dawn of the motoring age is the windscreen wiper. Invented by Mary Anderson in 1903 after she realised drivers of the first motor cars were having to lean out of the window in rainy conditions to see where they were going, it became a standard fitting on all cars within a few years. Windscreen wipers have certainly improved over the years as technology has developed, but they’re still basically a strip of rubber moving across the windscreen to clear rain.

New Jaguar XJ – the Interior

Sat, 11 Jul 2009

The interior of the new Jaguar XJ Interior The interior of the new XJ doesn’t feel like that of any other big car. It still feels Jaguar. It’s hard to define though; it’s more of a feel from sitting in the car.
