Available for sale is a Switlik MOM 8-A  that I received as a gift.  I already have one so this item is offered New in Box for sale.  It can be shipped groun.

The MOM8-A is a rugged and reliable system which, when properly maintained and serviced, will provide sailors with the most advanced aid in the recovery of a person overboard.
With the introduction of the original Man Overboard Module System in 1978, Survival Technologies Group set new standards in the design of equipment to aid in the recovery of a person overboard. Continuously improved and upgraded over the years since its introduction allows the latest version of the MOM8-A to maintain its leadership in Man Overboard equipment.

Features:

  • The MOM8-A is a completely self-contained system consisting of the canister (complete universal mounting hardware included) with an inflatable horseshoe shaped buoyant device, inflatable locator pylon, and a self-opening sea anchor, all packed in the canister and ready for instant deployment
  • Both inflatable devices are fully deployed and inflated within 7 to 10 seconds after deployment
  • The MOM unit is mounted on the stern pulpit either directly over the stern or on the port or starboard quarter depending on the boat's configuration
    • Located on the top of the canister is a Deployment Handle which when pulled opens the bottom of the canister and allows the inflatable devices to automatically inflate while falling into the water
    • The canister is positioned on the stern pulpit in a way which allows free-fall into the water
  • When inflated, the ballasted Locator Pylon has a 6-foot waterline height
    • Located on top of the Pylon is a water-activated, Lithium-powered, flashing light with 5 years of life
    • The light can be seen nearly a nautical mile under normal night conditions
    • The Pylon has (2) SOLAS reflective panels to aid the boat's search
    • The Pylon is tethered to the inflatable horseshoe-shaped buoyant device capable of supporting a 250 lb. person with high freeboard
      • Freeboard is measured by the distance of the victim's mouth above the water while afloat in the horseshoe
  • The horseshoe is placed under the arms and there is a quick-connect adjustable belt for full encirclement
    • Attached to the horseshoe are two Lifting Straps with stainless steel 1" D- Rings
    • The Lifting Straps enable the person to be lifted aboard while remaining in the horseshoe
  • Tethered to the horseshoe is a 16" diameter, ballasted, self-opening Sea Anchor to reduce downwind drift.

July 7: A couple of suggestions

Wed, 07 Jul 2010

Since I got home with more than half a charge last night I didn't plug it in. I ran a couple errands, 10 miles, then drove 22 miles to work. So that's 22 plus 22 plus 10 and I drained the battery.

Peugeot 2008 DKR heading for the Dakar Rally. Not that it looks much like a 2008

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

The Peugeot 2008 DKR (pictured) is heading for the Dakar Rally After steering clear of the Dakar Rally for a quarter of a century, Peugeot is back in the endurance rally game with the Peugeot 2008 DKR, a rally car that shares its name with Peugeot’s 2008 Crossover – but little else. Instead of the almost cutesy looks of the 2008, the 2008 DKR gets looks that could have come from Mad Max with a sinister-looking black paint job, just two doors, short overhangs for better obstacle negotiation, 37″ off-road tyres and a thumping great wing at the back. Unlike most cars that tackle the Dakar, Peugeot has decided that rear-wheel-drive is the way to go as it allows for bigger wheels and more suspension travel, rather than the four-wheel-drive preferred by the majority of entrants.

Concept Car of the Week: Renault Altica (2006)

Fri, 18 Jul 2014

Back in 2006 Renault was still well into its design-leadership stride, if perhaps not for much longer. The Altica concept, shown at that year's Geneva motor show, showcased all the French brand had to offer at that time – a brilliantly brave, architectural interior, a style that could only be associated with its country of origin and an interior that thoroughly questioned and readdressed layout, control and format. It also served to preview the renaissance of the Shooting Brake that the industry is still experiencing.
