New Routemaster bus hits London streets

The very first new Routemaster hybrid bus began its first day of service in London today. The bus, whose exterior and interior were designed by Londoner Thomas Heatherwick, retains the distinct character of the old Routemaster – British as the London taxi and red telephone boxes – but is far more modern in its design and construction. The new Routemaster's main design features are its three sets of doors and two staircases, which it is hoped will ease the strain during rush hour in regards to alighting and entering the bus.

CAR went up to the Burnaston factory in Derbyshire for a deep dive on the new mass-market hybrid car from Toyota.The second hybrid on show will be the new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, which will be exhibited in full production guise for its European debut.It's also the European debut of the FT-86 sports car concept – and the first time we've seen the facelifted Toyota RAV4, which adopts a distinctly grown-up face. Electric Land Rover Defender at Geneva 2013

Land Rover has built seven electric Defenders to act as research vehicles for EVs off-road. All seven Defender EVs will be at Geneva 2013. What it is is the 2013 Land Rover Defender – in a variety of body styles – with the diesel gubbins removed and replaced with a big bank of batteries and an electric motor, as Land Rover try to find out if EV off-roaders have real world application possibilities.
