Bluebird DC50 electric supercar (2014) pays tribute to Land Speed Record legend
Mon, 08 Jul 2013The Bluebird name is back – and this time it’s on a road-legal supercar. This is the first sketch of the Bluebird DC50, an electric coupe that’ll be launched in 2014 to mark 50 years since Donald Campbell’s land and water speed record runs. It’s the brainchild of Don Wales, grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell and nephew of Donald Campbell.
Maserati GranCabrio at Frankfurt
Mon, 24 Aug 2009Maserati will be launching the Maserati GranCabrio at Frankfurt It’s taken Maserati a year or three to cobble together the Convertible GranTurismo, but they’ve finally got there and the new car is Christened – The Maserati GranCabrio – and will launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Unlike its cousin the Ferrari California, the GranCabrio gets a folding rag-top instead of a tin-top, which should help keep the inevitable weight gains for a cabrio in check. But it’s still not going to be light at pushing on two tonnes.
Court order BANS publication of VW’s Luxury car security codes
Tue, 30 Jul 2013Bentley is just one of VW’s marques whose security has been compromised There have been plenty of stories around in recent years of car makers’ security systems being easily hacked by spotty boys with a laptop, and now a scientist at Birmingham University has cracked VW’s Megamos Crypto system that protects cars like Bentley and Porsche. Flavia Garcia has cracked the code that transmits between VW’s luxury cars – like Bentleys and Porsches – and the key fob, which potentially fatally compromises VW’s security. Garcia had planned to publish his paper on the fatal flaws in the Megamos Crypto system at the Usenix Security Symposium in Washington next month, but a judge has put the kybosh on that.
