Identify the type of intermediate clutch piston in your TH400 during overhaul. It will be either cast aluminum or stamped steel. Beginning in 1974, GM introduced the stamped steel piston as a cost saving method for most models. After repeat failures it use was discontinued in 1987. The use of the stamped steel piston is less than ideal for any heavy duty or high performance usage. With increased line pressure, it suffers from bowing, bending, deflection and a compromised work surface area where the piston acts on the intermediate clutch pack. This reduces the clutch pack torque capacity, creating performance and durability concerns. Note the narrow work surface of the steel piston compared to the wide work surface of the aluminum type. Simply swapping out the steel piston for this obsolete OEM cast aluminum type will vastly improve intermediate clutch pack torque capacity in all applications. Aston Martin Vanquish Volante (2013) at Frankfurt motor show

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

New models are coming thick and fast in Aston Martin's centenary year: here’s the drop-top Aston Martin Vanquish Volante. The soft-top flagship is the first convertible Aston with a carbon body, making the stiffest and most powerful drop-top it has ever built. Its 565bhp drivetrain has been taken straight from the Aston Martin Vanquish coupe – the most powerful Aston to date – but the Volante adds 105kg and an extra £6000 for a starting price of £199,995.

Opel/Vauxhall Adam Rocks previews crossover, cabrio

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Opel/Vauxhall has previewed its Adam Rocks 'concept' ahead of its world debut at next month's Geneva motor show. This mini-crossover is taller and wider than the production Adam thanks to a suspension raised by 15mm with a 20mm wider stance. Its fabric sunroof suggests it will compete with the Fiat 500C and the new Citroen DS3 Cabrio.  The sketches show unpainted plastic bumpers and extended wheelarches along with underbody protection, emphasizing its rugged appearance apparently inspired by "parkour athletes".

Rain doesn't dampen spirits at Orphan Car Show

Wed, 28 Sep 2011

With rain falling as the show cars arrived, organizers worried that moving the 15th-annual Ypsilanti Orphan Car Show from its original June weekend to late September wasn't going to work out after all. It was rescheduled last year after heavy rain in June and participants voted to make the change permanent. Fortunately, the rain blew over before the gates opened to spectators and Sunday turned out to be as nice a day as Saturday, when more than 30 entrants enjoyed a tour to view the extensive Nash collection that Ken and Mary Ann Havekost have accumulated in Monroe, Mich.
