The following taken from the Foreword:

This is another of the M.G. Tuning Booklets which have been issued in recent years. It deals specifically with the series MGA.

The MGA as delivered from the factory in its standard form is tuned to give maximum performance with 90-octane gasoline consistent with complete reliability and reasonable freedom from pinking. There is, however a more or less continuous demand from enthusiasts all over the world for information on methods of improving the performance for competitive purposes, and is to meet this demand that this book is prepared.

 A little M.G. MGA  history:

M.G. Series sports car was introduced in September 1955, to replace the Midget model. It was inspired by the M.G. record-breaker, EX135, which was used by Captain Eyston when he captured International Class records at the Utah salt flats in the U.S.A., and by the later record-breaker, EX182, which was driven at Le Mans, by George Phillips, in 1951. This car consisted of a prototype body on a modified contemporary TD chassis.

Altogether there have been four variations on the MGA theme: the 1500, the twin cam, the 1600, and the Mk II. The twin cam model featured a special engine with twin overhead camshafts, and is not dealt with here. The 1600 Mk II was discontinued in 1962, and replaced by the new MGB model, although there have been modifications to the original model, the essentials such as the suspension, chassis frame, and basic body structure, remained the same. Over 100,000 MGA's were built.

Tue, 13 May 2014

Jay Leno drives his new McLaren P1 Jay Leno has no shortage of cars to play with in his collection, but if this video of Jay and his new McLaren P1 is anything to go by, the P1 is his favourite car by far (at least for now). Then it’s time for a drive out in the P1, first with Mike Flewitt as a passenger and then with Jay on his own as he takes the P1 round the winding roads near his home, and Jay reveals that he put nearly 900 miles on the clock in the first five days he had the P1.
