Price and specification details for the 2013 VW Golf MK 7 have been revealed for the UK. Starts at £16,300. Starting point is the Golf S 3-door with the 1.2 litre TSI engine the 84bhp at just £16,330 (less than the same MK 6 model), with a choice of both 3 and five door models across the range and three trim levels – S, SE and GT (the MK 7 Golf GTI won’t arrive until next year).

Highway Code braking distances questioned

THE ACCURACY of facts and figures in the Highway Code has been called into question after research by the RAC showed that many drivers underestimate official stopping distances. As part of the organisation's Report on Motoring 2014, drivers were asked to identify the Highway Code's stated stopping distances from different speeds, but the majority “seriously underestimated” the figures. However, a separate survey by Right Driver of 1,000 Advanced Driving Instructors (ADIs) revealed that the vast majority strongly believe that the official braking distances have become irrelevant and should be updated.

Car giant starts recruitment phase

CAR GIANT Jaguar Land Rover has started recruiting for the first phase of 1,700 new jobs to support production of new vehicles. The company said 500 production staff will be taken on as part of expansion plans at its factory in Solihull, West Midlands. The carmaker is investing £1.5 billion in the UK and plans to increase its workforce at Solihull to almost 8,000.
