The high-performance governor is an alternative to a manual valve body; in bracket racing it is an advantage for repeatable higher RPM upshifts and more consistent ET’s as there is no need to watch the tach.

Special 426 HEMI governor components for the 1966 through 1970 HEMI 426 Torqueflite 727; can be installed in any 1966-1970 Torqueflite 727 or 904/998. Factory specification for the “wide-open-throttle” (gas pedal on the floor in DRIVE) shift point is aprox. 5800 RPM with 1966-1970 HEMI Torqueflite governor parts; low-speed shift points under light-throttle are also elevated slightly (to compensate for the 426 Hemis “soft” low-speed torque response at low RPM). Kickdown to FIRST gear under wide-open-throttle will also be elevated, raised to aprox. 35-40 MPH. Installation only requires sliding the tailshaft housing rearward aprox. 3” to access the governor assembly. Parts kit includes: special outer governor weight (“higher-upshift” @ light-throttle/low-speed), special inner governor weight (higher “wide-open-throttle” RPM-upshift) and OEM H.P. light governor spring (factory part numbers 1823726, 2801257 and 1949859) plus 3 extra snap rings, extension gasket, bearing cover gasket and speedo ‘O’ ring.
