FJ CRUISER AFTER MILD BODY CHOP NO WELD MUD FLAP COVERS WITH STAINLESS STEEL HARDWARE KIT
Ok, so you did the FJ Cruiser "Mild-Body-Chop", (MBC) or you are looking into it so you can put those BIGGER tires on there!, whatever!!! I chopped mine as you can see in the photos below; I cut approximately a 4 inch by 1 inch wedge off the frame mount so my 285's (basically 33 inchers) would not rub under some driving conditions other than regular road driving since I hadn't lifted the truck at all, ...yet... -I didn't have a welding machine and I don't know how to weld either, so I came up with these plastic ABS covers, which are very durable and pre-formed and will come to you with all stainless steel hardware to mount over your (once chopped) frame body mounts.
Please scroll down and read along and enjoy, and consider this as an alternative to welding closed the frame after you cut off the front of it. I like this idea because it is difficult to get paint coverage inside the metal if you do weld it back up, but putting a quick coat of good quality spray paint on the raw metal after doing the chop and then installing these ABS plastic covers you are preventing rust on all surfaces inside and out. It is very easy and can be done in a very little amount of time too, I would say the whole thing could be done in about 2 hours tops, even if you take your time!
So pictures 1 and 2 show you exactly what you will get, two symmetrically cut ABS plastic covers with mounting holes already drilled to line up with existing mud flap mounting holes. You also get the stainless steel hardware consisting of 2 long screws, 6 shorter screws 8 washers and 2 nylon spacers. The only difference between the ones you see below and the ones you will get is that they will be formed and contoured to curve into the mud flaps as shown in pictures 4 and 5.
*All the screws that hold the mud flaps in place from Toyota are replaced with all stainless steel screws that come with the kit, stainless washers are included also, so this is also somewhat of an upgrade in that department!

The below set of pictures shows some detail on how I went about doing my MBC:
First I removed the mud flaps and cut them as shown:
Below is the piece I cut off of my body mount frame extension, 4" X 1" and the far end it tapers off to 0":
Here is a picture of the chop complete and painted to keep the frame steel from starting to rust up:
Here is the cut mud flap back in place:
And here are the covers I am making and selling installed over the chop, you can see that the cover has a wide tab that is cut so the tab actually inserts into the opening of the frame helping the cover to stay in place. (This is kind of hard to see as it is sort of behind the tire in this photo) *Also, when I did mine all I could get were stainless philips screws and washers that are sort of too big (they are painted black so they blend in with the rest of the wheel well in the picture below), the kit comes with hex-head stainless screws which match the original crews used except these ill not rust. The spacer is used between the cover and the screw you see in the middle of the photo below as this mounting location is recessed and without a spacer there the cover bends around and gets all wonkily distorted and wont look as slick as it does below!:
And here is a quick look at what the back of the driver's side mud flap looks like once cut and with these covers installed:
***Of course once all this was done I decided to lift my FJ up just a little!:***

Mercedes E63 AMG Drifting at Brooklands
Wed, 14 Apr 2010The 525bhp Mercedes E63 AMG gets blatted round the Brooklands track in the video below When you produce a mid sized saloon car with a great big 6.2 litre V8 you can be pretty sure that when journalists get the chance to play they’re going to be a little exuberant with your car. So why not get in first? That seems to be Mercedes thinking with the video they’ve produced of the E63 AMG strutting its stuff at a soaking wet Brooklands track.
