Le Mans champ: laser lights are the future
Wed, 04 Jun 2014Three-time Le Mans 24 Hours race champion Allan McNish has told us that technology first trialled at the world famous endurance event often makes it on to road cars – and this year’s big thing will be laser lights. Speaking ahead of Le Mans 2014, McNish said that racing is more relevant to everyday cars than people think – with features from seat belts to windscreen wipers debuting at the race. Cop saves life of choking driver
Thu, 14 Aug 2014A US POLICE officer saved a motorist in Kalamazoo, Michigan, who was choking after stopping her for driving through a red light. Officer Jason Gates realised the woman could not breathe when he approached her vehicle, so he hit her on the back to try to clear her airway. When that did not work, he performed the Heimlich manoeuvre which dislodged a piece of sausage and bread from her throat.
Henrik Fisker leaves his eponymous company
Thu, 14 Mar 2013Henrik Fisker, co-founder of Fisker Automotive, has resigned from the company as Fisker seeks funding to move forward. But Henrik Fisker managed to convince the car world his Fisker Karma was credible, even if its gestation has been plagued by problems, the latest of which has been the demise of its battery supplier – A123 Systems – and the wrecking of a dock full of seemingly uninsured Karmas by Hurricane Sandy. The current problems at Fisker has seen them seeking a new investor, with two Chinese companies – Geely and Dohnfeng – vying to take a majority stake in Fisker Automotive and help Fisker recover sales of the Karma and move on with Project Nina, the smaller Fisker Atlantic.
